Roadmap Out Of Lockdown Step 4 - Day 51
Albert Mill on the River Chew
“In the Domesdy Book K is recorded as having 6 mills. Southmyl is mentioned in Abbey records, what we know as Albert Mill... Albert Mill was leased for fulling cloth from the 15th century. By the late 18th century, the woollen industry was declining and between 1788 and 1811, Albert Mill was a cotton and hemp mill. Towards the end of the 19th century it was adapted for dyewood production and continued as such until the 1960's. The site has been redeveloped for housing.”
Another first in 18 months, a meet up with a friend from my library book group. After a walk around the park, and beyond, we stopped off at a new pavement cafe for a drink and more nattering. Sitting in the dappled sunlight we felt like/wished we were in France! (extra no1) Hotter today at 27 degrees but a lovely breeze made the heat more pleasant. My tomatoes have been enjoying this heatwave and some are starting to ripen, at last; today ate tomatoes numbers 3-8! (extra no2)
Take care, stay safe and well...
(Thank you again for all your recent kind words, stars and hearts, all very much appreciated.)
