Sunshine and moths
I spent this morning volunteering with the National Trust at Brantwood on the shores of Coniston, recording the presence of the caterpillars of the Netted Carpet Moth on leaves of Touch-me-not Balsam. It's a rare moth that is only found in the Lake District, flies at night, pupates for 9 months of the year, and has tiny caterpillars that resemble the seed pods of the balsam - and you have to look at individual leaf stems from all angles to see and record them! (See extras) I was impressed with the Brantwood gardens, and the views were superb.
I then had a swim in Coniston to cool off.
