INTERIOR 5

OK - I'm ageing, cold and yearning for the past. So for the first time this year I have lit the coal fire which brings many memories now shrouded by the mists of time; toasted - bread, muffins, marshmallows; clothes screens, towels drying and nappies and mother cosily rubbing down the fretting child and the dog dreaming dangerously near the hearth and the occasional spark of flying 'shrapnel' causing bairn, adult and dog to jump out of the comfort zone.
And sometimes it was fine to watch the 'pictures in the fire' as we settled for the evening, better than black and white telly as it was then and maybe tonight we'll even ignore the colour telly with its, in the main trashy output, and settle for supper with toasted marshmallows and grand memories.
