Lake Ohrid at sunset from Struga
Tonight's blip was really difficult to choose as I took a lot of pictures of Lake Orhid, the mountains and the town of Orhid during the afternoon as well as shots of the lake at sunset.
After this morning's meetings, getting our accreditation and meeting up with our interpreter and driver we drove from Skopje to Struga, which is in the south west of Macedonia and sits on Lake Orhid. On the way we stopped for a break at the top of the Straza pass and ate Mekica and some local sheep cheese. On the drive we passed through a number of towns including Tetovo, Kicevo and Ohrid. Tomorrow we will be carrying out our election monitoring in and around the towns of Struga, Ohrid and Kicevo.
Arriving in Ohrid this afternoon we stopped and I managed to take some pictures of the lake, the mountains and the town from the harbour, but they didn't make it to today's blip. After a short stop we headed on to Struga and checked into our hotel (Hotel Drim) before heading to our last meeting of the day.
After the meeting finished we set off to a local traditional Macedonian restaurant recommended by our interpreter. As we drove along the lakeside to the restaurant the sun was going down and the view was stunning, so as soon as we arrived I leapt out of the car, rushed down to the lakeside and took some shots before the light went completely.
It was a beautiful sight with the lake, the setting sun and the snow covered mountains. I chose this picture as I think it just about edged it over the others in conveying the scene.
