Grosmont Station
Wednesday 8th September 2021
A gloriously sunny and hot day. We travelled to Goathland, where I did the Mallyan Spout Waterfall circular walk while J, did the less strenuous Centenary walk. The waterfall is down a deep ravine so some very steep steps down. When the guide book said the short detour on the walk to get to the waterfall required a scramble they weren't kidding! A scramble over wet boulders. I managed it though and reached the bottom of the waterfall. I then completed the walk and met J for a picnic lunch.
After lunch we walked down to the station, just as the steam train left. We found out the time of the next train and went up to a hillside vantage point to watch for it. Having seen it we then raced it down to Grosmont, where we got a really good view of it.
After our evening meal back at base we went out for an evening drive to Sandsend and walked along the beach, although the light was fading rapidly. We finished the evening with a chat in the lounge with two of the other guests (and a bottle of wine!)
