Dragonfly identification
A brief trip to Risley Moss.
The “mini- moss” area has a boardwalk, and today as I walked along there were plenty of small dragonflies basking on the handrails.
There appeared to be four different species, but a bit of research has reduced this number to two (the Risley Moss Action Group has a very useful online guide).
So …… the main blip is a female common darter. In the extra a montage of all four “types”. Top left, female common darter, bottom right the very different male. Top right, male black darter, bottom left the female of the same species.
