Sedum Spectabile

The flowering of this unassuming plant always, for me, marks the beginning of Autumn.  The bees just love it and at one time there must have been six or more working away at the flowerheads.  I had intended to photograph the Red admiral who'd  spent some time on the buddleia but as soon as I appeared with my camera, off it flew.
I spent the earlier part of the day watching the BBC News Channel coverage of the three events to mark the 20th anniversary of 9/11, attacks which still horrify and bring tears two decades on.
This evening brought an event which was a huge change of mood as British tennis player Emma Raducanu won the US Open at the tender age of 18.  She is the first British woman  to win since Virginia Wade did in 1968 and it is the first time since 1999 that two teens have competed in the final.  Her win was deemed so momentous that even the Queen and the Prime Minister sent messages of congratulation.
