Some Days

Opulent Victoriana

I'm back-blipping yesterdays trip to Huddersfield for a concert in the town hall.

It is a beautiful piece of Victorian architecture, this is the staircase to the mayors chambers and reception rooms. The concert hall entrance is at the other end of the building.

Greater opulence.

It was a difficult journey from home in Scotland down the A1 to Yorkshire, the easterly wind made driving very hard for the coach driver, but there was no significant snowfall until we reached the outskirts of Huddersfield, where we saw 25-30cm on top of walls and significant drifts.

The joint concert with the Brighouse and Rastrick band went very well, their hospitality was very generous (the best meat and potato pie served with mushy peas with mint sauce and onions in vinegar followed by strawberry trifle - it was quite hard to blow after all that!) and later it was a privilege to share the stage with this great band.

A quick pint of Bombarier after the concert then back on the coach to arrive home at about 2.30am. The coach went on to Glasgow via Whitburn to drop the instruments at the bandroom, the last passengers would have arrived home after 4.00.

A really great, very long day.
