Wearing the art

We went to Petworth to look at an exhibition of Sean Scully (recommended by art critic friend Martin on Instagram) at the Newlands House Gallery.  We’d booked our tickets on line but although the outside cafe was open we couldn’t get into the house.  We ended up ringing the gallery and a woman who answered said, we knew you’d booked, we wondered where you were.  I think the intercom wasn’t working.  Anyway we loved the paintings by SS and his wife, his most and here in the first room realised that both V and H were wearing the colours of the paintings.  I too blended with a painting in another room.

Lunch was booked at the Horseguards Inn in Tillington for 3pm so we were meant to kill time in the antique shops of Petworth but they were largely shut so we hung out in the indoor market where everything had a Petworth premium and the sales people were older than most of the antiques. Still I managed to buy a nice blue bulb vase.

The HG Inn was delicious and hilarious but that’s for another time…
