Pair of peanuts

Golden peanuts, that is :-) Because of our time in Singapore and my (volunteer) work as docent in several museums there I did learn a lot about symbolism in Asian art. In Chinese traditions good things very often come in pairs, so doubling the fun and goodness. The other often occurring thing has to do with the Chinese languages. There are a lot of ways to pronounce each and every syllable, so that they can sound like or rhyme with something with a good or happy meaning. And then there are the natural symbols. Having lots of offspring, being fertile is very important and obviously nature has lots of examples of fertility. Peanuts in their pod are certainly one of such plus the second syllable in their name (花生; huāshēng) the shēng part relates to giving birth and so they are seen as very auspicious and thus often used as decorations, especially during the Lunar New Year celebrations. In pairs of course ! And if you make them golden they will reflect the promise of wealth too :-)

This life-size golden pair in mono with a nutcracker for size behind them for today's Mono Monday theme of 'two' with thanks to Majoayee for hosting this week.

Thanks very much for the kind comments and stars for yesterday's bridge with arrows and last week's Abstract Thursday results :-)
