If only ….

Looking through the mountains of clutter that characterise our house, I found this tucked into an old domestic science exercise book of my Mum’s.
It’s a programme of entertainments at the Queensberry all-services club in London, not dated but the films showing at nearby cinemas listed on the back all came out in 1942.
Mum would have been nineteen then and serving in the WAAF, but I never heard her mention being in London during the war. If only she were still here so I could ask if she actually saw the stars in the programme. Did all those people, including the legendary Vera Lynn, really appear in the space of forty-five minutes ? Or were they simply shown on film ? I’ll never know now, but I’d like to think she actually did see them.
