One more step along the road I go

CAMINO PORTUGUES Day 8

Well, almost 50,000 steps today, ridiculously, because after walking 15+ miles to Atalaia, and finding our apartment, we discovered that the nearby cafes and restaurants were all closed! It was a case of either going to bed hungry or walking to the nearest shop (that was a supermarket in the next town, nearly 2 miles away.

We made it there and back just before dark and ate our haul at the kitchen table. We have plenty left over for breakfast and snacks for tomorrow's walk, too.

Apart from Golega, where we stopped at lunchtime, there had been nowhere to get refreshments. Hopefully that will change as we head further north and leave the fields of crops behind. I did eat a few fresh figs off a tree by the path..also saw my first hoopoe today :-)

Time to soak my feet now..
