Branscombe Beach

We drove to Branscombe beach after breakfast and it was a nightmare drive down tiny, steep, narrow lanes with few passing places and mostly there was a hair's breadth between our car and the ones we were passing! It didn't help that there was a queue to the T junction which made for more inching past vehicles and more of them inching past us. It was worth the effort though because the beach was quiet when we got there. The car park had loads of spaces. The weather was baking hot and the sky cloudless. I found a geocache while there. We had takeaway coffees on a bench above the beach huts with a wonderful view and fabulous weather.
We only stayed an hour there but when we were leaving the car park was rammed! Another lot of fun getting back up to the main road then we desended to Branscombe village - the route to this was also an ordeal of narrow roads with barely room to pass other cars!
In the village we parked up on the overflow car park not far from the Black Smith's Forge (NT) and had a mooch around. I found a clever cache there. After this we drove on to the church and parked beside it. Had a good look around the outside and inside.
We decided to go to Budleigh Salterton for lunch. The problem was that everyone seemed to be out and about today - busier than the weekend was - maybe because it was forecast to be the last hot day. We drove around the central car park and abandoned the idea of getting a space - people go on and off there frequently but there were many cars queueing for spaces.
We drove to Otterton Mill and had lunch there. It was quieter there this afternoon - seemed that most people were at the beaches!
