Patterns

Lots of imaginative ideas about what causes these patterns under the bark from P2 today. 
Some quite sensible possibilities in too! 

Bark Beetles drill down into the bark and lay their eggs under it. When they hatch the larvae wriggle along eating the bark. 
I imagine it like wormy pacman.
