A little diversion

In 1882 there was the first series of lectures entitled The Evangelical Succession delivered in St George's Free Church in Edinburgh. Notable speakers spoke about the great evangelists of the Church - starting with St Paul.

In the back cover of the printed copies of the lectures I found this.

Could it be that some young enthusiastic churchman, growing a little bored by the proceedings, began to sketch a beautiful young member of the congregation?
