A day of 2 halves

We left Corsock in good time to reach Threave Castle. It was a beautiful morning, hot, and we enjoyed the walk down to the castle which is picturesquely situated on a little island in the River Dee. (Top picture).

Then we headed for the west coast as Mr C had never driven further north than Cairnryan. I had and, apart from a view of Ailsa Craig, famous for producing curling stones, hadn’t found it that attractive. We stopped for lunch at a spot with a view of it. I had already been to Culzean Castle, and Mr C was anxious to press on, as he was to get a phone consultation with a nurse.

We had just filled up with diesel and parked up when she rang. He is to get his Covid test on 2 October and 2 procedures to investigate things on 5 October. Great it is so soon but we’d been booked by #2 daughter months in advance to have the boys that weekend as it is their 10th wedding anniversary and they were booked on a blacksmithing course in Yorkshire. We had not intended to tell the daughters about the tests till be knew what was going on but now we’ll have to. Hopefully the Irish grandparents will step up to help. They have not been over for almost 2 years, what with Covid and her mother needing attention.

The bottom picture is Goat Fell, a Corbett of 874 metres, taken from the ferry. The weather had deteriorated somewhat. We had discussed climbing it but Mr C thinks as we’re not in top condition, we might do some low level walks instead.
