Tortoiseshell

We have had very few butterflies in our garden this year, and none feeding (to my knowledge). So it was a surprise this morning to see this tortoiseshell on a sedum.

Extra - greylag geese at WWT Martin Mere. My first visit this year, amazingly. It was all pretty quiet. Apart from the geese that is. Greylags make that farmhouse goose sound (the farmyard goose is a domesticated greylag), and a flock is cacophonous. This one fits the widwed theme of water.
