Shuggie Bain

A live audience and live people on stage! I went to a book talk with my friend Mila tonight and it was well worth the effort. Scottish author Douglas Stuart talked about his book Shuggie Bain, Booker prize winner, and talked of pride and shame, working class and poverty, fitting in and feeling excluded, strong women and alcoholism., mothers and sons.  And more. His lovely accent and talk made me feel a  bit homesick, proud to be Scottish, made me laugh and brought a lump to my throat.  We bought the book a while back and have it in our kindle. Now to read it,  but I need to be ready for the ride.
