Salt Pie Lane
I tend to walk around looking upwards, which is why I slip over so often in the snow. Consequently, I've never noticed this carving in the pavement on Salt Pie Lane, which a friend of mine pointed out to me last week. I went back today to take a photo of it.
As you can see, it's a salt pot, a pie and a pint. This refers to the local tale that the lady who sold the pies on this lane made them extra salty, thus ensuring custom for her brother who ran the pub, The Green Dragon (now The Snooty Fox) just around the corner.
I don't know who commissioned this carving in the pavement but I love it. As much as anything, I love the fact that someone *bothered* to do it or have it done.
