Eli's

The weather was raw but thankfully no snow!

N and I drove through the Somerset Levels to the Rose and Crown at Huish Episcopi to meet friends for lunch.

The pub has been in the same family for over 120 years and is affectionately known as Eli's, after Samuel Eli Scott, the first landlord's son-in-law who took over the running of the pub with his wife Maude on the death of William Slade in 1921. William first took over the pub in 1870. There is no bar but a tap room and a room that used to be the Men's Kitchen still has its sign No 2 (licence) on the door. The front room is adorned with old sepia photographs of various members of the family and the pub in different eras. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming and the bread and butter pudding was to die for!
