Another day, another castle!
First things first! The rubbish bag, see yesterday's blip, had been torn open by something, fox?, during the night! I hope it avoided the fishing hooks!
We've had bats flying round the van and owls hooting and now perhaps foxes out there as well, in the darkness. We've seen a couple of dead ones on the road, certainly.
So, to Aboyne via Fettercairn, a nice looking village, decked with bunting for a cycle rally yesterday. Aboyne was our stop for lunch. I got my black pudding and fried egg roll!! Hooray! There is just something irresistible about them! Mike favoured a cinnamon and apple scone with butter and jam instead. Lottie was brought a bowl of fresh water. She got bits from us too!
To Lumphanan, where Macbeth made his last stand and was murdered by Macduff. We walked up the Ring of Peel and Lottie spent her time rolling in the grass. She loved it, nice and cool up there too.
Next the castle of the day, Auchindoun. A terrific ruined castle, looked after by Historic Scotland. A good walk and a superb spot, stunning views all around it, you can see for miles of n every direction. We were able to have a good explore of it, Lottie too, and it was really interesting. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire, the result of a family feud, in the 16th century. An impressive amount of it still standing though.
A super day for scenery. A lovely day.
