FIGGY's Sporadic Blips

By Figgy

Loch Lubhair

lies to the east of Crianlarich in the shadow of Ben More. It is approximately 1.4 miles in length and 0.3 miles at its widest point.

The river Dochart flows in from Loch Dochart in the west and exits toward loch tay in the east. There is a legend regarding a castle on the loch, more likely to have been a crannog, but his has never been found.

Crianlarich has been a major crossroads for north and westbound journeys in Scotland since mediaeval times. In the 1750s two military roads met in the village, in the 19th century it became a railway junction on what is now the West Highland Line, and in the 20th century it became the meeting point of the major A82 and A85 roads. It is designated a primary destination in Scotland and there are more direction signs pointing to Crianlarich than any other location in the UK.

Bitterly cold today with lots of snow lying on the high ground.
