Doodle #24 (Saturday 18th September 2021)

The sun on this planet is decidedly unconventional, and the landscape somewhat desolate. The illustrated line "There ain't no life nowhere" comes from the song I Don't Live Today which occurred on the first Jimi Hendrix Experience album, Are You Experienced, released in May 1967. I bought it almost immediately and it virtually lived on the Art School common room turntable, where I created this doodle.

When the song was recorded Jimi Hendrix's guitar parts were made with a brand new hand-held wah-wah unit, which became an important part of his sound although it was soon replaced with a foot-pedal version. He dedicated the song to American Indians (he was part Cherokee himself) and all help groups that dealt with depression, a theme of the song. Later overdubs were added at Olympic Studios to create the released master.

The British version of the album was in mono but later US releases of it had most of the tracks in a true stereo mix.
