Hórreo in distress
People have commented on the stability or otherwise of hórreos. Here the main photo shows an hórreo in its last days. The roof damage is clearly visible. The structure is protected by law but owners can claim inability to pay for repairs. In this case, one suspects the owner, widely reported to be the Marques de Villaviciosa, could afford to restore it if he so chose. Deference, presumably means he can claim what he wants to.
The sign shown in the thumbnail warns that there is a danger of collapse. The extra shows the hórreo from a different angle, showing again that the roof is broken. Once the roof fails, the rest of the structure can be expected to decline rapidly.
Props which are holding the structure up at the moment can be seen in the photos.
Technically this one is not an hórreo but a pañera. The difference is for our purposes just that - technical.
