2014 more running needed

Bugger!

Subluxation of the acromioclavicular joint
Or: collar bone is too far from the shoulder blade.

So now I am in a sling for the next couple of weeks and I need a new bike :)

BUT I am here and I am able to recollect the whole story with huge amusement because of the most important part of any bike : MY CYCLE HELMET

If you ride a bike and haven't ot one , PLEASE get one. When I came off I also banged my head and the helmet means I home and safe.

There are no mitigating circumstances like kids, dogs or pedestrians. The simple fact is I didn't see the wall that I hit head on at 15 mph!
So over I went.

I knew immediately I wasn't going to walk away so after getting the attention of two runners (Thanks Dave and Collette - good luck with your first marathon in April) we got the ambulance called and then waited............ and waited.

It took far too long but a first responder called Ian was there quite quickly and I knew I was OK mostly. And I wouldn't want my ambulance ahead of a heart attack.

Ian did get worried at one point in case I became hypothermic but the ambulance arrived soon after.

Nick and Gaynor (The Stig!) were the brilliant ambulance crew. Though Nick did press on the sore point a bit too much, I forgave him when he gave me the gas and air :)

I didn't know Gaynor's name at this point but as she was driving The Stig seemed as good a name as any and I think it's going to stick.

Bless them, they even got me a chair to wheel me into the hospital.
Can't thank them enough.

Inside it was pandemoneum. Seemed like half of Blackpool was in there.

The NHS staff in the UK take a lot of stick but my experience has always been the same - absolute maginificence.

I don't know how long I waited but Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway was on the tv in the waiting room. I didn't see the whole programme, which is an hour long. I was assessed, x-rayed and discharged before the programme finished.

I've been conscious throughout. Blood pressure and heart rate were fine throughout. I've been treated magnificently by the wonderful staff at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and I've laughed all afternoon.

So there's no need for pity and sympathy.
But if you haven't got a cycle helmet, please get one. If you know someone who hasn't got one, please show them this blip.
My hat probably saved my life today.

Have a great week. I know I will
