Chianina

The biggest cows, domesticated for 2,200 years, suited to heat, sun, hill country, originated in Tuscany’s broad Val Di Chiana south of Arezzo. Used as beasts of burden til after the II World War they are also prized for their beef. But you rarely see them outdoors these days.

We came across these ones on the single track road to Campolombardo near Stia.
