Abandon hope all ye who enter here’

The entrance to the Don’s secret lake was guarded by two narrow passages. Every tide, the water surged first one way and then the next creating rapids. The water was only ever still for 30 seconds, when the tide turned. The narrowest passage was only about two metres wider than the folk’s boat.
