Strollin'

Strollin'

Sandra and I got up early today and headed back over to Roma Norte with the Wee Man in tow.

She was keen to get a pair of shoes from the place we'd been to yesterday and we thought if we got there early we'd avoid the hipster throngs.

So, we went initially to a lovely place, but had a very disappointing breakfast (the 1st photo) there. Put Sandra in a foul mood.

Then headed to get the shoes, which put the good back in Sandra's mood. Had a wee drink and found some lovely pesto on the open top terrace of the venue. But couldn't stay there too long, as all 3 of us felt we were being cooked under the early morning sun.

As we were in no rush we just ambled about afterwards not really caring where we ended. Found a great little restaurant, which we'd been too before, when it was called Patio Perez (a blip of it here, in fact), but now it's called El Traspatio.

Like the name not too much has changed. A little tiddier is about it. The food was simple, but delicious. If you ever get the chance to eat Nopales (cactus leaves) you should, as it's lovely - kinda like a cross between green pepper and okra. Ours was grilled along with some other veggies (3rd photo) and we had Arrachera (steak) and also Choripan (Argentian sausage sarnie) with it.

Oh, and maybe a few beers and Mezcals too.

Carried on strolling around and all the while I was giving my new phone a run through of its camera, as I´d forgot to replace the memory card on my camera (schoolboy error, if ever there was one!). I have to say and especially, in comparison to my old phone, it impressed the hell out of me.

I've never expected too much from phone-cameras, but this did a fine job. It'll be great for FB etc.

The middle shot is of a little Virgin Of Guadalupe shrine, that you see dotted all over the city (and country), because they are used by Taxi Ranks as a way of bestowing luck on themselves.

If you've ever been in a Mexican taxi, you will understand why they (and you) might be tempted to say a wee prayer beforehand! They say there are no atheists in war, I think the same is true of a Chilangan cab!

Finished up with a coffee and cake in Delirios, which is home to the best ever Chilli Salsa (blipped here), a fresh jar of which is now sitting in the fridge.

However, now it's time for a quick and tasty plate of pesto pasta.
