My Son

These Hindu influenced ruins were built by the ancient Champas who ruled Central Vietnam from c200AD to c1700AD. Architects still cannot fathom how these temples were able to last in such good condition as no cement was used to bind the brickwork. Many of the temple sites were damaged or completely destroyed during the Vietnam war bombings. Our guide showed us an area that has been restored using cement, which is now already covered in moss and degrading. Yet the ancient brickwork nearby still stands almost like new.
