Red Legged (or French) partridge

This partridge and his mate nest in our garden. During the breeding season they complain very loudly if we come too near the nest. In the summer they have dust baths in the vegetable garden. This one is foraging under the bird seed feeder.

Out in the fields we plants strips to encourage the Grey (or English) Partridge, which are rare round here. But I also love their French cousins who need no encouragement.
