My Best Efforts - Year 3

By AMC

Heckington Mill.................

..........................was originally built as a 5-sail mill in 1830 - repairs were carried out and the 8 sails were fitted in 1892 after an awful storm which blew off both the cap and sails. Milling continued until 1907 then stopped and didn't re-start until 1933, when more repairs and the 4 new sails were fitted. The owner died in 1941 and left the property to the family. The Kesteven County Council bought it in 1953 for £400! Between 1969 and 1972, the mill was struck by lightening. It reopened in 1986 and milling resumed for the first time in 40 years.
Last year nearly one million pounds was received from the Lottery Fund and plans are in hand to restore and repair the mill itself and modernise the outbuildings to make a new tearoom, lavatories, shop etc.
It is hoped this will be completed by the end of this year.

There was very little colour this morning and looking at the picture on screen, I decided to show it in black and white which actually looks almost the same!

The weather is not nice - one degree up on yesterday - but as the wind is stronger it feels even colder!

I cannot believe that in four weeks today, Anni and I will be mid-air on our way to Texas and some sun.
The time since our visit last year - which was to Niagra and then on to Martha's Vineyard - has flown. The next 4 weeks will probably drag!
