Northern Quarter
Some ambling around Manchester's Northern Quarter today, dodging showers, making a few classy purchases before lunch with Tom and Helen at BAB.
Last night's Genesis gig was tremendous. Although there was a problem with what, in Manchester, we call "the leccy", which led to a late start, they played for well over two hours, to a rapturous response from the crowd.
For me the best two songs were Mama, in which Phil Collins' vocals were wonderfully creepy. But Land of Confusion was magnificent. It was written in 1986 but the lyrics were absolutely current, about this very Land of Confusion:
There's too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go around
Can't you see this is the land of confusion?
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make it a place worth living in.
