Concours de bières: Chapitre II
Tourist day!
Took Beth to see the Abbaye aux Hommes, Abbaye aux Dames, le Château, Musée de Beaux-Arts, Hôtel de Ville, Saint-Pierre and l'Université. The university is where that picture of her is taken; this graffiti is repeated throughout the city in fact...the dragon face is in rather a few alleyways and walls around the city. Also visited the port, where Beth has some rather hazy memories of a few bars and restaurants, as she had visited before but with her squadron!
Spent the afternoon with Thibaud and Thomas chez eux, talking a mix of English and French (for once, equal numbers!), looking at Disney songs in different languages and just generally having a nice chilled out afternoon. Was definitely needed as sightseeing is pretty exhausting! Norman hospitality is rather lovely, going to miss it when I'm gone!
The evening meal was at Dolly's, where Beth took great pleasure in sending her boyfriend a picture of her massive plate of spare ribs followed by another later on of the rather epic looking Eton Mess! I of course went for the 'Dolly Burger Deluxe' (burger, bacon, fried egg, cheddar cheese) followed by the pear, pineapple and chocolate crumble (in French, crumble, but said more like craum-bOl) We then headed back to mine and turned round again rather quickly for the Concours de Bières...an evening out that just happened to include a beer drinking competition! Great fun, although I think Beth might have been a bit overwhelmed at the beginning by the number of people her own age and how loud everyone was, especially when coming from a rather small French town in the Picardy region. Was all a lot of fun though, and definitely did not get home until late o'clock! Nights out, Normandy style!
