Kentmere Mill

The village of Staveley may nestle in the Lake District national park but it owes its existence to the wood turning industry using the power of the River Kent to run its mills. They used the wood from the surrounding hills and helped supply the bobbins for the mills of the industrial revolution.

This is one of the surviving mills and is still in use today but using electricity and not water power! They have been making paper products here since 1906.

I pass this twice on my training runs as I cross over the bridge at Barley Weir. I love the fact that from this angle it looks not much different from when it was first built.
