(270) The Dubbie

The Frances coal mine (known locally as The Dubbie) near Dysart in Fife ceased production in 1985 after underground heating problems became too great to overcome. The pit closed for good in 1988 and the winding tower alone remains as a memorial to the mining heritage of the area.
