Surprise! surprise!
This morning we visited the Bakewell Pudding Shop for (unsurprisingly!) a Bakewell pudding to sustain us on our journey. Then we set out for Malhamdale where we will be based for the next week. Not far out of Bakewell and the valley of the river Wye, we came upon Surprise View, a beauty spot on the edge of a millstone grit ridge, overlooking the Hope Valley, above Hathersage. Apparently it is famous for its sunsets and dark night skies but we couldn't afford to wait another ten hours, and after a brief walk there, we continued on our journey to Airton, near Malham, by way of Hathersage where we enjoyed our Bakewell pudding, and Rawtenstall station on East Lancashire Railway for a tea break.
