St Albans
This is a view down the longest nave in England. Construction of the Abbey at St Albans began in 1077, starting with the tower, which still stands today. It is a glorious building, with evidence of the various building additions and modifications over the centuries still identifiable.
The abbey closed in 1539 and the building became a local parish church, until 1877 when it became a cathedral and the seat of the Bishop of St Albans.
