The Ouseburn

A lovely walk at Newcastle Quayside this morning followed by a walk along the Ouseburn valley.  The Ouseburn is a small tributary of the River Tyne.  It's such an interesting area with masses of history.  It has a very industrial past - glassmaking, coal being transported in the Victoria tunnel etc.

The building to the left is called The Toffee Factory.  It has now been refurbished and is used as office space for digital and creative businesses.  In the past it was a cattle sanatorium (where cattle were held and tested for diseases), a lard warehouse and a sweet factory (where it got it's current name from).

There is lots going on in the area including a city farm, several real ale pubs, Seven Stories - the National Centre For Children's books, etc.  There are also lots of flats being built.  The one's in my photo are just in the process of being finished.

I have enclosed a few other photos from our walk.
