The Merchant Navy

This morning I took my mother to Mimi's Bakehouse in Leith. What a super place: beautiful cakes and food, decent coffee and tasteful surroundings. I'd highly recommnend it.

Then it was off to Craigielaw Golf Course in Aberlady - and I'm happy to record a 3&2 victory over my brother.

This image is from the Merchant Navy Memorial, located outside the Malmaison hotel in Leith. These brave men lost their lives by the thousands in WW2, yet rarely get spoken about in the respectful, hushed tones reserved for the RAF or the great Scottish Regiments. I reckon this memorial is a step in the right direction.
