Neolithic?

This morning I picked up these sprigs of elm from underneath a car in the local carpark, and I was amazed to read, later, that elm trees were pollarded as far back as about 3000 BC in England by the neolithic inhabitants. (David Bellamy: The Queen's Hidden Garden.) There's been a fair bit of evolution/diversification since then, but next time I go shopping and park nearby I'll be happy to let the carpark elm remind me of the links across time.
