The Mariner

Not a very nice morning, grey sky and raining in and off, so decided to take photo near to were I live, this is a couple of minutes from my street.
One of the statues in Newport, this one is of a Navigator sat on the top of a column looking towards the centre.
A Bronze scultpture of a navigator, sitting on a sphere and with a sextant is his right hand. The statue is placed on a column of 7 m high. At the base of the column are sculptured stone elements related to shipping in wartime, such as an anchor, torpedo and a gun.
A tribute to the men and women of Newport who lost their lives in active service during the Second World War.
