Red leaves

I don't actually know what this is. I'm thinking maple family, but these don't look like maple leaves. I've noticed them before poking over this fence. It's a nice mystery. It's from the garden of a large house which sits by the canal. This is one of the things about walking the same routes. You notice all the changes.  I'm going with ducks again for my extra photo. Three mallards all coloured differently.
