Northern lights in Iceland
The official forecast for seeing the Aurora tonight was low - i.e. very little chance, so we were super, super excited to look out the hotel window at around 22.00 and see a wonderful display. This was my best photograph, (taken from our room in the Hotel Laxnes in Mosfellsbaer just outside Reykjavik), but it really doesn't show the lights in all their glory.
We watched for about 20-30 minutes as the green and pink lighs danced across the sky. It's easy to see how in olden times people were inspired to believe in gods and angels after witnessing something so beautiful and other worldly. We felt very thrilled - and lucky - to have seen them. (Fellow guests had gone on a Northern lights tour the day before and not caught a glimpse of them)
