Outing With Ice Cream

Mum said: It’s a lovely sunny day, almost like summer. Let’s go to the locks where the ice cream hut is for walkies. But I must tell you, Alice, the hut will almost certainly be closed for the season. 

I, always seeing the glass half-full and walking on the bright side, heard “almost” and said Yay, let’s go! I would have said Yay, let’s go to any outing proposed, but this one is special. 

We had a glorious walk along the canal in the sunshine. I jumped the old stone pillars, sniffed exciting trails and generally enjoyed everything. We climbed the hill where the locks are, and guess what?? When we got to the top where the ice cream hut is, it was OPEN! They even had some new strawberry ice cream! Yay! 

It was a lovely picnic, first egg and kaviar (Swedish smoked cod roe) sandwich and then ice cream! Bliss! The hut is in extras. 

On the way back, we saw a snake, right in front of us on the path. Sneaky snakes. I hope it’s bedtime for them soon.
