Gate in a gate

I took myself out in the car this morning and went over the top of the North Downs and into Shere. This is said to be the prettiest village in Surrey. It is usually busy with people feeding the ducks and visiting the tearoom, pub and gift shop but it was very quiet today. It is still far too cold for sightseeing.

I browsed in the excellent gift shop and bought a few provisions in the Village Shop. Then I went on a blip foray and was spoilt for choice. I came home with a camera full. I chose the old gate under the lych gate because I loved its weathered look. I wonder how long it has been guarding the ancient churchyard?
