The opposite shore

The people on the opposite shore are different. We face the rising sun and, perhaps as a result, our inclination is to look to the future. On the other shore, they look towards the evening and this is reflected in their character - they are preoccupied with the past, replaying old arguments, keeping old slights alive. The prevailing wind is at our backs and, consequently, we expect to be supported and helped in our endeavours whereas they are surprised on the rare occasions when things go their way.

Romances and marriages across the bay are not uncommon. When people move across the water, you might expect their outlook to change but this is not the case. It seems that the geographical factors take effect early in our lives and once they have done their work, cannot be reversed.

Those people living in the curve of the bay - the elbow - they are neither fish nor fowl.
