Nipped in the bud

In our garden we inherited a row of azaleas that sit for most of the year a tad drably, except when spring gives them a nudge. And then it's ready, steady...there's a mass of buds, swelling, fatter and fatter, until....and that can be the subject of a blip pretty soon.
