It rained....
James and I did think that we might go and stand in another part of the ground where they had a roof, but when push came to shove, we couldn't break the habit of a lifetime, and we stood in the pouring rain with Bill from the Midlands, Tim, Joe and John on the open terrace that we like to call home (between 3.00 to 5.00 on a Saturday afternoon). We were 2-0 down when the referee (much to Wrexham's disgust) called the game off. Our only surprise was why the game was allowed to start in the first place, but I was really unimpressed when Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney (who is apparently an actor in some TV show called Always Sunny in Philadelphia) sent a tweet saying "I'm watching our players mop up the field to continue the game. I've never seen anything like it. Official statement from the Co-Chairman "We need to get out of this f***ing league"
How unbelievably disrespectful to the thousands of clubs that form non-league football - where, incidentally, Wrexham have been languishing for the last 13 or 14 years. For no other reason that this, I hope you stay in non-league for many years to come. Oh - and I hope you pay for the damage that your players did to the pitch when they attacked it with brooms trying to sweep the standing water off the pitch. It may always be sunny in Philadelphia, but in England, every now and then it rains, and sometimes, it rains really heavily!
