Brass …..to be cleaned sometime!!

This is a piece of brass which is sometimes referred to as Trench Art . It’s the case of a shell from the First World War . ….brought back and used ,in this case ,as a container for fireside tongs and poker .
This belonged to my great uncle who was called up in the last year of the war .I don’t know where he got it from but I do know he came home and was a milkman (originally with a horse!) for 50 years!
Like my father he had a great sense of humour and am sure he would have a laugh watching me give this a clean ………..
