A view from Jeanneb

La Corbiere

We’ve had a great day. After breakfast our friend and her daughter came to pick us up from the hotel.
She took us via Portelet Bay to see the bunkers there on the cliff top before dropping down to St Aubin which has a very pretty harbour.

J, Chris and I took the Corbiere Walk route across the peninsula to the Corbiere lighthouse. You can see in the blip here that there is a causeway across the rocks to the lighthouse. At the Maritime Museum yesterday we watched a demonstration of tides using La Corbiere as the illustration, showing how the high tide completely cuts off the lighthouse leaving it atop it’s island of rocks.

A super spot. We had a coffee at the Corbiere Phare which has great views over the promontory before walking back. Looking up the coast the other Channel Islands could be seen in the distance beyond La Rocco Tower on its own rocks in St Ouen Bay.
8 miles in all but on a very level track through the pine trees. It was the route of the only railway in Jersey recreated by the Germans during the occupation. Apart from the lovely scent of pine we were treated to the sight of red squirrels in the trees. No greys here, or foxes.

Another unexpected sunny day with just one brief downpour  as we were nearly back in St Aubin and we were able to shelter under a bridge. A crack of thunder and then it moved off.
A visit to the Harbour gallery for more refreshments and a look around the lovely artwork.

We got a bus back to St Brelade and had just ordered drinks in the bar when J’s daughter and grandson arrived to pick her up. Shame she just missed out on a well earned G & T!
Thank you J for your company and a great day out.

Last dinner tonight, how time flies when you’re having fun.
